What Does the Future Hold

With the elections coming quickly, and the uncertainity of who will lead our nation, someone aksed me if our country has hope.  It is a scary time and we don't know what the furture holds, but we know the One who holds our furture.  Through the prophet Isaiah God spoke words of encouragement to His people.  "Who has measures the waters in the ollow of his hand and marked off the heavens with a span, enclosed the dustof the earth in a measure and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance?  Who has measured the Spirit of the Lord, or what man shows him his counsel?  Whom did he consult, and who made him understand?  Who taught his the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed him the way of understanding?  Behold the nations are like a drop in the bucket, and are accounted as the dust on the scales; behold, he takes up the coastlands like fine dust...All the nations are as nothing before him, they are accounted by him as less than nothing and emptiness."  (Isaiah 40:12-15, 17)

Isaiah reminded the people of God that God was the God of the nations.  We can have confidence, not in our rulers but in the ruler of all things our living God before whom the nations are but a drop in the bucket.  So no matter who our elected leaders will be, God is still in control.  Does that mean we should sit on our hands and do nothing?  Of course not!  We are to be involved as citizens, especially as Christians.  We are to pray for our local and national leaders.  But we should never lose hope in our furture.  The God who has secured our eternal life in Christ will most certainly help us navigate this age with confidence.
