The WayJesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6) Jesus claim is that He is not merely the Way, but the only Way to God. There is no ambiguity in Jesus statement. Jesus is not allowing for a diversity of opinions nor alternate routes to know the living God. He continues, "If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen Him." (7) To see the Biblical Jesus is to see God. To know the Jesus of Scripture is to know the heart of God. Yet there are many Christians who would struggle to make a defense of that claim. St. Paul the Apostle wrote to a young pastor named Timothy, "I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths." (2 Timothy 4:1-5) We who know the Way are encouraged to be prepared at all times to give witness to that which we know is the truth. That includes arming ourselves with the evidence of the truth from various disciplines, for God has left His signature on all of His creation. Therefore we at Our Savior will endeavor ever more diligently to prepare ourselves to hold forth the truth that Jesus is "The Way!" |
